The study published in the December 2003 issue of the journal Spine, the official publication of the North American Spine Society, examined the effects of ergonomic chairs on reducing musculoskeletal symptoms such as loss of function, pain or stiffness.
The research was conducted over a 15 month period with 200 office workers that sat at their desks for at least 6 hours a day.
The study challenged the myth that ergonomic chairs can't improve health and productivity. It was also concluded that the cost to employers was minimal when investing in ergonomics to improve health.
